Shirley Chisholm worked tirelessly as a politician, a legislator, an author, and an educator. Not only was she the first black congresswoman in the US, but she was also the first black major-party candidate to run for President. Shirley believed strongly in education, child welfare, women’s rights, and workers’ rights.
